Overview

For conceptual artist Sara Vermeylen, I developed a mixed-media interactive prototype designed to merge physical interaction with dynamic visuals. The project features a chair enhanced with custom 3D-printed panels and force sensors powered by Arduino.

These sensors communicate with TouchDesigner to trigger and display video content, which was meticulously crafted using Blender and After Effects.

This seamless integration of hardware and software creates an immersive audiovisual experience driven by user engagement.

Approach

To bring Sara Vermeylen’s concept to life, I adopted a multidisciplinary approach, combining hardware prototyping with advanced digital tools. The project began by designing and fabricating custom 3D-printed panels to house force sensors. These sensors, built with Arduino, were programmed to detect pressure from a user sitting on the chair. The data from the sensors was then transmitted to TouchDesigner, which served as the central platform for triggering visual outputs.

For the visual content, I collaborated with Blender and After Effects to produce high-quality, dynamic videos tailored to the artistic vision of the project. The integration of these components was carefully calibrated to ensure real-time responsiveness, creating a seamless connection between physical interaction and the digital visuals displayed. This iterative process combined creative experimentation with technical refinement, resulting in a cohesive and interactive multimedia experience.
